The Highland Group Awarded Second Project for Coastal Alabama Community College

February 3rd, 2023 (Foley, AL) – The Highland Group, a leading real estate development and commercial construction firm, has been awarded their second contract for Coastal Alabama Community College to provide a major addition to their Monroeville campus’ Allied Health Building as well as limited renovations to existing facilities. The addition will be a 3,000-square-foot single-story addition that will serve as the home for the college’s welding program. The addition includes a large learning space outfitted with new welding stations and worktables. The renovations will take place in the Allied Health Building and will also convert the existing field maintenance shop into another welding space and maintenance lab for the largely trade-oriented college campus.

This is the second project that The Highland Group has been awarded for Coastal Alabama Community College. Highland has tapped Chandler Owens as the Assistant Project Manager and he is excited to continue this relationship with the College. “It’s always a privilege to assist Dr. Pouncey and his team at Coastal Alabama Community College as they expand their educational offerings and plan for the growth of their students,” said Owens. “Under Dr. Pouncey’s leadership, Coastal Alabama Community College is continuing to be a trailblazer in Alabama for readying students for skilled trade programs and workforce development. We’re excited to be at the forefront of this effort and thrilled to assist Coastal in gearing up Alabama’s next generation of skilled professionals.”

This will also be the second welding facility The Highland Group has constructed for the community college system and another in a series of higher education projects that the firm has undertaken in recent years.

Coastal Alabama Community College (CACC):

Coastal was formed in 2017 through the consolidation of Alabama Southern Community College (located in Monroeville and Thomasville), Faulkner State Community College (located in Bay Minette, Fairhope, and Gulf Shores) and Jefferson Davis Community College (located in Atmore and Brewton). In fact, the Community College’s roots go back to the creation of Alabama’s 13 original two-year colleges via Act No. 93 of the Alabama Legislature in 1963. Their Monroeville campus offers a variety of degree programs for university transfer, business technology, nursing, and Monroeville coastal students can also complete general required courses for any program while studying there. The Monroeville campus boasts a championship athletic program, a well-equipped fitness center, and an extensive academic library outfitted with state-of-the-art research resources and is home to the Southwest Alabama Regional Arts Museum.

Coastal Alabama’s Welding and Marine Programs:

Coastal Alabama Community College’s Monroeville Campus houses a variety of welding and marine industry programs and offers a wealth of educational certificates for its students. Some of the certifications offered by the college include basic plate welding, pipe welding, and welding technology with hands-on practical application-based instruction designed for students to go directly into the labor market upon completion. Careers in the welding industry are in high demand thanks to above-average hourly rates and a wide range of opportunities nationwide and beyond. Coastal Alabama’s safe, hands-on instruction and range of opportunities through their industrial partners are extremely useful in helping students determine their next steps in life beyond schooling. These programs are specially designed to prepare the institution’s student body for longstanding future trade-based careers and ready them to join today’s workforce.
