It was a full circle moment for The Highland Group as they celebrated the grand opening of the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives. The real estate development and commercial construction firm was brought in to design, renovate and build a new home for the infamous museum, which after much growth, required a bigger space to preserve the historical artifacts and memories of our treasured veterans.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey joined for the grand opening celebrations and took the podium to speak on the museum’s reopening, her father’s service in the military during World War II, and how important it is to honor those who served. “It pays tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, and the goal is to teach our children for generations to come the importance of honoring our veterans,” Ivey said.

Michael Barnes, Project Manager for The Highland Group in Huntsville, feels fortunate to have been able to play a role in this renovation. “The Highland Group is thankful to have had the opportunity to help create a beautiful space that will honor, celebrate and remember our servicemen and women for years to come.”

The Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives is located at 114 Pryor Street and will be open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Museum is staffed by volunteers and offers free admission, although donations are greatly appreciated.
